TôL est le nom de famille d’un ensemble d’objets réalisés ou en cours de développement (étagère, plateau, banc, console, tabouret…). J’ai choisi d’insérer ce projet dans un processus industriel déjà existant pour la fabrication de bardage, palissades de chantier et couvertures de bâtiments industriels. L’entreprise Comat Métal est un des leaders dans ce domaine.

L’aspect plastique de l’objet procède d’une rencontre avec l’entreprise Comat. Tout en utilisant le mieux possible le potentiel des outils de l’atelier ainsi que les qualités d’adaptation des techniciens (s’ouvrant à un champ d’application totalement nouveau): l’objet se dessine. Ce travail nécessite une rupture de chaîne. Ainsi, une attention particulière est apportée au projet qui nécessite une certaine précision dans la qualité d’exécution. Il est ébauché à l’atelier puis il est précisé au fur et à mesure avec le cisailleur, le soudeur, le plieur et le responsable d’atelier.

Tol is the family name of a group of objects, (shelves, trays, benches, consoles, stools....) either completed, or to be developed. The choice to insert their manufacture into an already existing production process for industrial siding, fencing and roofing materials, was intentional. The company, Comat Metal, is a leader in the production of industrial building materials.

The plastic appearance of the object developed as a result of a meeting with Comat Enterprises. Making best use of the potential offered by available tools, and best use of the technicians’ adaptive skills (and, concurrently, opening up a totally new field of application), the object designs itself. Imposing breaks in the assembly line permits the precision necessary to maintain a standard of quality production. Drafted in the workshop, the project is then, as needed, meticulously chiseled, welded and folded by the technicians under the supervision of the product manager.
